Imbuers, we’ve reached yet another major milestone in the mass adoption of Web3. After months of backtesting and evaluation by the Web3 Foundation, we are finally ready to release our MVP.

For those who are new here, Imbue is a decentralized crowdfunding DAO built on top of Polkadot. It is an idea incubator and accountability protocol open to the entire world. We enable anyone, from any walk of life and for any kind of endeavour, to submit and vote on Ideas worth funding from the communities that believe in them the most.

In order for the testing to be as smooth and successful as possible, testers should focus on the following:

  • ✍️ Initiating proposals
  • 💰 Contributing funds to projects
  • ☑️ Initiators submitting milestones for voting
  • Contributors voting on milestone completion

Let’s get into how the proposal process works.

What You Need to Get Started

To go through this guide and interact with our TestNet, you will need to take care of these items first:

  1. You need to have a Polkadot.js account. To set up an account, go here . You will not need funds in your wallet to use our TestNet.
  2. Install the polkadot.js extension on chrome or Firefox. You can find that here
  3. Send us a message with your account no. on the main Imbue Telegram Channel or on the main discord channel so that we can send you some $IMBU tokens.
  4. Let us know how it goes! Join the Imbue discord server and share your feedback in the #imbue-testnet-feedback channel.
  5. Use the Imbue telegram bot to get some $IMBU tokens

We recommend pairing up with a partner. One of you can be the Initiator and one can be the Contributor. For more technical help through this entire guide, check out our GitHub.

How to Submit Crowdfunding Proposals

First, navigate to the TestNet portal. The site will require you to connect your {.js} wallet to proceed. Next, choose the account that you would like to use as the Initiator of the project.

After your wallet is connected, this is the fun part as an Initiator! Next, fill out the information about your project. This includes the name, logo, what you are building, and more. Here, you will also define how much funding you need to start and how much at each milestone. While the site only requires one milestone as a minimum, the best practice is to set multiple to give yourself the highest chance of success.

Once you’ve confirmed the details of your proposal, it’s time to “Save Draft Proposal.” This starts the process of sending the transaction to the chain for validation.

Finally, click “Finalise.” Look for the confirmation that says “Proposal Created.” Congratulations! 🎉 Your proposal for decentralized crowdfunding has been sent to the chain.

Share your account number with us on the main Imbue Telegram Channel or on the main Discord channel and wait for your project to be open for funding.

How Proposals Are Chosen

In these beginning stages, each proposal is looked at by the Council made up of members from the community and those from the internal team. The Council’s job at this stage is to add proposals to the funding rounds. This avoids any harmful or scam projects coming into funding rounds. That way, we can avoid the issue altogether.

How to Contribute to Finalized Proposals

Initiators can not contribute to their own projects. For the purposes of our TestNet, grab your partner to be a Contributor.

Contributor, go back to the TestNet portal home. Here, you will select the second option “Discover Projects.”

Find your partner’s project and click on it to view more details. You will notice that the Project page now has the “Contribution” module.

Once you’ve made your decision and decided the amount you’d like to invest, click “Contribute.”

If you see the button turn green and say “Contribution Succeeded,” winner winner! You have successfully become a Contributor to this project.

Important Note: Once you have successfully (test)funded your project, please contact our main channel in Discord or our main Telegram chat. We do this because the Council must approve funding. This is until we and the community agree on what the “success” threshold is (i.e. what happens when a project is under-funded or over-funded).

How to Submit Milestones

Now that our (test) project has successfully reached funding, the Initiator can get to work. Again, please contact us when you have reached funding.

You have worked on your first milestone for the last couple of weeks and you’re ready to submit to your Contributors. Initiators can only submit milestones once the contributions have been approved by the Imbue council. This is to ensure that the threshold for funding has been met.

Go back to your Project’s page. Here, you will find that the UI has updated so that you as an Initiator can submit these milestones. The funding target doesn’t matter for the TestNet, but the Initiator will still need to contact us on the main Imbue Telegram Channel or on the main Discord channel to approve contributions.

Next, select the milestone you are delivering. Click “Submit.” Once you get the green confirmation, your Contributors will be able to see

How to Vote on Milestones

Successful milestones unlock the next stages of funding. Now that our first milestone has been submitted, it’s time for the Contributors to review and vote. Contributor, go to the Project page.

Here, you’ll notice that the UI has updated to account for this stage.

Finally, once the Contributor has seen enough, vote on the milestone. Your vote is confirmed when you see the button turn green.

And that’s it! Now, the Initiator can withdraw funds for that milestone.

What You Can Do Now

In recent months, we’ve seen an amazing uptick in engagement and community growth. We’ve proven that there is a market for our decentralized solution to crowdfunding. Now is the pivotal time where you decide if the product we have built is useful or not.

While our product is at its early stages in its development cycle, you may encounter some issues. Mainly, it’s important to keep in mind that the TestNet is where most of the development work is taking place right now. If you run into any problems, don’t freak out! It’s part of the testing process.

Your feedback is critical. Please take some time to go through our system and provide any insights that you have. Plus, with your involvement in our journey to MainNet, you can receive the chance to earn special privileges as an Imbue Hero (maybe some cash, too). More details on this to be released very soon!

Any questions or feedback on our platform should be directed to our main Telegram chat or the “imbue-testnet-feedback” channel on our Discord server.

We believe that our solution will change the way that funding happens for both Web3 and traditional businesses.

Let’s all strive together to create an alternative that will #DecentralizeTheVCs and bring #AccountabilityEmpoweredByTheBlockchain.
